For the past two years, FRATERNITE NOTRE DAME, as a NGO partner with the Department in charge of the Population, the Promotion of Women and Protection of Children but also as a member of CONAFE Niger, participated in several workshops intended to improve the protection of the child towards a real implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and of the African Charter on the Rights and the Well-Being of the Child.
Although Niger ratified these two international documents, the protection of the child and the application of these texts are not effective in this country; a good point is that progress can be noted.
Participation in the writing of the alternative reports for both of these international texts allowed to present a more in-depth view of their implementation in Niger, but also brought more insight to a report produced by the Department part of the Committee on the Right of the Child in Geneva.
The papers mentioned above were subsequently followed by a list of recommendations of the said Committee to the State, towards an effective implementation of the Rights of Children in Niger.
Finally, light can be shed on the obvious role played by Fraternité Notre Dame in the preparation and celebration of the Convention on the Rights of children. The children supported by Fraternité Notre Dame always play a key role in such events important for Niger.
A member of CONAFE-Niger, Fraternité Notre Dame is recognized as a NGO active in the promotion, education and protection of children.
Conafe Niger is a coalition of NGOs working for children. The coalition is present across the entire African Continent and can be found in almost every country, except Somalia, Morocco...
In Niger, Conafe is broken up into several networks; Fraternité Notre Dame is Chairman of the 'Orphan's Network' and therefore, is a member of the Executive National Board.
